Newsflash!

Student Focus Sunday: As part of the Continuing the Journey – Forward in Faith Campaign (to raise funds for the Family Life Center) the church is going to celebrate Student Focus Sunday on October 26th at both services. We’re looking for students who are willing and able to help at one of the worship services (read a prayer, scripture, usher, greet, do special music, sing with the choir, walk on water, etc.). You could wait by your phone until we called you, but you might as well hit “reply” right now and just volunteer to serve in some way.

July in Christmas – High School ONly Retreat: You have heard of Christmas in July, but have you ever heard of July in Christmas? All 9th-12th graders and their friends are invited to come on a High School only retreat to Lakeside. Lakeside is an entire Methodist community in northern Ohio off of Lake Erie and they are opening up the place for us! Have you ever wanted to participate in a Polar Bear Plunge? How about miniature golf outside in December? What about a weekend with your friends thinking about God surrounded by an entire community which supports you? So save the date December 5-7 and don’t forget your sunscreen. We are getting ready for July in Christmas!

What are you Doing Sunday Morning?: One of the best things we can do as a community of Christians is to join together regularly in worship. Make it a habit to worship with us every Sunday morning in order to show your love to God and to get a great start on a new week. Our traditional service (think organ and Pastor Brian in a funny robe) starts at 9:30am. If you’re looking for something a little more casual, try the “contemporary” service at 11. Sit with your family (they love that) or set together up front. In any case, be sure to sign the attendance sheet at your seat so we will know you came!

Staffing Changing: Though Stephanie has been on our paid staff just long enough to know when Pastor Jim is teasing, it looks like she will be moving to Cincinnati later this fall. We sure love her and the work she has been doing with Student Ministry but her husband Brad has a new job in the land of Skyline Chili. As the Stoppenhagens sell their house and move, Stephanie will be transitioning off our staff. Though we are going to miss her, church leadership is committed to ensuring that Student Ministry doesn’t miss a step. In addition to the continued presence of our ever expanding volunteer staff and Pastor Brian, the church is beginning a search for a new, part-time Director of Student Ministries. We’ll keep you posted as things develop.

new leaders: We couldn’t keep the secret any longer. The students at Indian Run are AWESOME and we have adults who love Jesus and like students banging down our doors to work with you. Here are several of the new folks who you will see leading FX and small groups this year:
Grant Downes – former member of TBDBITL but NOT a former member of the special forces (so far as you know)
Sam Magee – who is psyched to be working with the high school
Jeff and Julie Horner – ask about the floor in their home dedicated to all things Ohio State
Michelle Leining – see if you can find why her email is “turtlechell” – there has to be a story behind that!

Jim Tressel Wants to See you at “The Main Event”: Jim Tressel, several starters from the 2008 OSU Football Team, members of the marching band, and cheer leaders want you to join them at “The Main Event”. Coach Tressel and the players will be talking about what it is that gets them through a long season (hint: it has something to do with Jesus). Monday, October 27, 2008. 7:00 PM. Save the date. Invite your friends. Check out this video: http://www.themaineventonline.org/multimedia/multimedia.html.
