I Was Thinking...

Ever been fishing? Have you ever told a fish story? Maybe about a catch you made that looked like this but you said looked like this? Often that is the way fish stories go. But maybe the most frequent type of fish story is about “the one that got away”. It seems that everyone who has ever gone fishing has experienced hooking a monster fish only to have it “get away”.

This Sunday I’m going to be preaching in worship about Jesus’ invitation to all of us to become fishers of people (don’t tell anyone… but I’m wearing waders!). When we go fishing for fish and one “gets away” we miss out on a trophy but we are left with a great story. But when we miss an opportunity to share God’s love with one of our friends or someone at school, the consequences for that person are huge.

Take a minute to think about someone you know who needs to experience God’s love. Seriously. Take a minute right now. What’s their name? Ok. You got it? Now ask yourself how you can help connect them with God. Maybe you know exactly how you can do that. Maybe you want to invite them to a Student Ministry event. Maybe you want to invite them to the Main Event. Not sure? Ask one of the adult leaders for help figuring it out.
