Announcements

Important Meeting for Anyone Wanting to Join the 2009 Confirmation Class: Everyone interested in participating in the 2009 Confirmation Class needs to come to an important meeting Sunday, January 11th at 6:30 PM and bring a parent. At this meeting we will go over the entire program, sign up for missions, and answer all of your questions. If you cannot make the meeting on 1/11, there is a makeup scheduled for Thursday, January 22nd at 7:30 PM. With so many students expected to be in the class, covering all of this information for each individual is not possible. Please make plans to attend one of these meetings. If you have questions about confirmation, please contact Pastor Brian.

DARLA HINER JOINS 8TH GRADE GIRLS SMALL GROUP MINISTRY: It is with great excitement that the Student Ministry welcomes Darla Hiner to the Student Ministry Team. Darla, who runs half marathons (for fun!) and love Whoopie Pies from Maine, is looking forward to connecting with our awesome eighth grade girls. Darla has a great spirit and a contagious faith. When you see Darla, please welcome her. Also, be sure to thank her husband, Grant, and their son, Ian, for sharing Darla with us!

She starts today! If you are an eighth grade girl, meet Darla in the Fellowship Hall between services. She’ll be the one with a plate of cup cakes she wants to share.

Attention 10-12 Graders – MOst Awesomest Opportunity: One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had is now available to you. A group of great people is offering a weekend event, called Chrysalis, to older high schoolers from across Columbus. Much like the adult Emmaus walk, this will be three day that I am confident God will use to touch your heart. The girls retreat is January 17-19 (MLK Weekend). The boys retreat is February 14-16 (President’s Day Weekend). Cost is just $65. Grab a friend and go! Registration information is at http://www.chrysaliscares.org/registration.htm. I will happily sponsor you. Just be sure I know you are wanting to go! You need to register before school is out to save your spot!

UPCOMING MISSIONS

Student Ministry Summer Mission Kick-off meeting and sign-ups to begin: This summer (June 21-27) the student ministry will be again going on a home repair mission with the Appalachia Service Project. Students who will have completed the 8th grade and will be fourteen by June 21 are invited to an important meeting for students and parents on Tuesday, January 27 at 7:30 PM in the Youth Room. Adults interested in participating should also plan to come. Deposits ($120) hold your spot and will be accepted beginning January 27. Deposits are due February 23. If you are interested in participating in the mission but are unable to attend the meeting, please email Pastor Brian.

The leadership Team for the 30 Hour famine is now forming: If you are passionate about fighting hunger and you are willing to serve Christ by helping lead (planning, advertising, sign-ups, etc.) this awesome ministry, please contact Becky Cunningham. There is a LOT of work to be done if we are going to top last years awesome weekend. Come let God use you to make a difference in the world.

In addition to our student leaders, we will need a number of adults to help on this weekend. We expect as many as 75 students this year! First, we need a few men and a few women who are able to stay overnight. If you need to come late or leave early, that’s ok but we’d love to have you for the full weekend! Do know this isn’t a giant slumber party. The students will sleep. In addition to the overnight volunteers, we need a number of parents to drive teams from the church to a local grocery store, wait with them while they shop, and return them to the church on Saturday morning. If you or someone you know can help with this important ministry, please contact Becky Cunningham.
